Copenhagen: The Danish government has taken a major decision to protect children from addiction. Under this initiative, the government has announced plans to ban social media for children under the age of 15. Introducing the proposal in Parliament, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said, "Mobile phones and social media are stealing our children's childhood." This step has been taken in light of the growing mental health crisis, such as anxiety, depression, and lack of concentration. Key points of the proposed ban According to the Danish government's decision, social media will be completely banned for children under the age of 15. Children between the ages of 13 and 15 will be required to obtain parental permission to use social media. The government did not name the social media platforms it has banned. While specific platforms have not been named, the ban will apply to major social media networks. Danish Minister Calls It a Major Step Denmark's Digitalization Minister, Caroline Stage, described the decision as "an important step," saying that governments should take concrete action against digital platforms that fail to protect children's well-being. This move is in line with international trends. Australia also implements a ban on social media platforms. Australia has also implemented a social media ban for children under the age of 16, and Norway is considering a similar age limit for social media platforms at 15. The ban in Denmark could take effect next year, although the implementation process and timeline are not yet clear. This move is aimed at protecting children's mental health and encouraging their real-life activities.
